City of Naga, Cebu: the Industrial City of
the South
Good day!
Naga: the place
where I was born, grown, and opened to real world undertaking. But aside of
such memorabilia that can be meaningfully collected from my very own city,
there are still other features that though readily obvious, but still, I will
be emphasizing for it is truly worth of recognition and pride.
Naga is being
labeled as the Industrial City of the South. It is the home of paramount
industries not only economically beneficial to the Nagahanon but also to all
Cebuano and in some extent to all Filipinos. These industries include: SPC
(Salcon Power Corporation), KEPCO (Korean Electrical Power Corporation) and
Cemex Cement Factory. Others are: Manila sawmill lumber, RSA (Rikio Southeast
Asia) and Cebu Marble Industry.
APO Cement Corporation
The APO Cement plant, under the APO Cement Corporation (ACC), located in Tina-An, Naga, Cebu, is renowned locally as one of the most modern plants in the country, despite being one of the country's oldest, having been established in 1921. It produces both Pozzolan and Portland cement under the APO Cement brand. The plant is designed and built to the strictest industry standards recognized worldwide, utilizing modern cement technology for the most efficient processing and consistent product formulation.
KEPCO SPC Power
Corp (KSPC)
In 2008, KEPCO
Philippines Holdings (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korea Electric Power Co or
KEPCO) went into joint venture with Salcon Power and formed KEPCO SPC Power
Corp (KSPC) to construct and operate a 200MW coal power plant in Naga, Cebu. In
June 2008, SPC Power Corp obtained a $100M loan from Korean Export-Import Bank
(Korean Eximbank) for the coal-fired project. The Asian Development Bank (ADB)
is also set to approve a US$120M loan to KSPC for the construction of the Naga
coal-fired plant (“Visayas Base Load Power Project”).
